Maccana (Caomhán Maccana) is a composer and producer from the Irish borderlands working across drama, documentary and live piano performance.

Over the past two decades, he has worked on productions for the BBC, RTÉ and Newstalk, picking up his latest award at the 2025 Celtic Media Festival in Cornwall. His practice has taken him across Ireland, the UK, the USA, Estonia and Mexico, including an Arts Council-funded project in Morelia City, where he collaborated with musicians at the Conservatorio de las Rosas, the oldest music institution in Latin America.

‘The Unseen Growth of Winter’ is Maccana’s debut national tour.

Presented across ten established arts venues, the 75-minute programme of original piano compositions includes The Rising, Athrú, Ven á Mexico, and Mo Thonnta. The tour will also premiere new music composed during an artist residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, including Iolar na hEargaile (Eagle of Errigal), written in memory of Moya Brennan.
