Axis Literary Department was founded in 2020 and run by lead artist Aoife Spillane-Hinks. The Literary Department works with practitioners of all art forms. To date, we have supported over 100 creators as they have developed new projects.  

The Literary Department is not involved in programming work for full production at Axis. Rather, our focus is on supporting artists during the gradual, unpredictable, and often exhilarating process of creating a new piece of work. 

The Literary Department is a key component in the Axis Assemble, Play:Ground and As Gaeilge artist support schemes, providing dramaturgical guidance and creative solidarity to both emerging and established artists who are in the early stages of developing new projects.  

Literary Department is a welcoming place for playwrights and other makers to approach with their plays, projects, and ideas. Subject to available time and resources, we endeavor to provide meaningful assistance to as many artists as possible.
