Jonathan Ho (videographer) and Jamie Harrington (roving reporter/host), two young people have been busy over the past 2 weeks capturing on film all the fun and antics happening across Ballymun in the lead up to this year's Otherworld Halloween Festival. Over the next 7 days we'll be releasing a video a day showcasing all the zombie parade prep, community art workshops, Witches Brew pop-up cafe planning, theatre rehearsals for a children's show in axis and storytelling sessions in Muck & Magic, a local communtiy garden and lots more - all happening as part of Otherworld 2017.

Ballymun locals are embracing their inner 'Zombie' this halloween. Do you wanna join them? This Halloween night nearly 100 local people will take part in a Zombie Parade that will weave through the streets of Ballymun on halloween night.

Good news just in... our young INVENTOR Lea Pepper has just been selected for a Festival Mentoring programme with Baboró International Arts Festival for Children. (Only 4 people were selected from a highly competitive application process) A new initiative from Baboró, the Festival Mentoring programme aimed at artists and creatives at any stage of their career, including those with an established career, who have never before made work for children. As part of the programme, participants will receive mentoring from two highly experienced individuals from the sector; Phil Kingston, Community and Education Manager at the Abbey Theatre and Maria Fleming, Chair of Theatre for Young Audiences Ireland (TYAI) and Freelance Producer. The four successful candidates will have an opportunity to attend shows during this year’s Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, which runs from 16 – 22 October in Galway, and will also attend industry and networking events.The Festival Mentoring programme will run for three days during this year’s Baboró International Arts Festival for Children from 16– 22 October. Lea will attend this 3 days mentoring programme as part of her placement/training with axis. On top of that Lea, has also just been informed that she'll be the new Assistant Stage Manager for axis' upcoming new production for children called Glimmer which will open to young audeinces this halloween in axis Theatre. Not a bad first month of exciting experiences and learning for axis' newest student!

What a terrific week we had in axis this week. Highlight was definitely the What's a Creative Space seminar we hosted in the theatre. 200 young men (16 - 20 yea...rs) from various Job Centres, secondary schools and youthreach centres descended on axis the other morning.

Last week has been a mixed bag of activities. Kicking off my week, the time had finally come for the start of the AxisXFringe programme which was a collaboration between Dublin Fringe Festival, Red Bear Productions and Axis:Ballymun. Our 9-young people met at Fringe headquarters, getting to have some one on one time with Tracey Martin and John Dennehy of Red Bear and Niamh Ní Chonchubhair and Leigh Hussey of Axis. We got to know one another, heard about how this programme came about, laughed a lot, bonded straight away as a group and embarked on our adventure to go see our first show. I have quite the unique part to play in this programme, because I’m not only participating in the programme but also blogging about our trips and all our antics; so, keep your eye out for that.

Today marks the end to a very busy first week here at Axis. In the past week I have come up with design ideas for some amazing spaces at our Otherworld festival, I got to sit in on some meetings for Positive Ageing Week, which proved very interesting. I've also been given some projects to work on over the next few weeks, putting my marketing and communication skills to the test. But just because the work week is over doesn't mean the fun stops there! This Sunday will mark the start of the Axis x Fringe project which I am very grateful to be apart of. Axis X Fringe is a collaboration between the Dublin Fringe Festival, Red Bear Productions and Axis offering 10 young people tickets to see 7 shows in the festival, not only do I get to see some great shows but I'll be blogging about these trips too. Tune in next week to keep update with my adventures.

Yesterday, axis were invited to attend a private screening of The Bus Stops Here, an Irish 1916 short comedy about how the lives of six people are affected while waiting at various bus stops in Dublin on route to the centenary celebrations of the 1916 Rising celebratory parade and re-enactments.
